Why "Sammy's Last Cast Tavern"?
The dog pictured in our logo is Sam, my yellow Labrador. He was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina December 22, 1993. He came from registered AKC stock and showed his intelligence and mild manner early in life. Sammy learned to fish as a puppy in the beautiful mountain trout streams of the Great Smokey Mountains. Since Sammy is a Tarheel, you'll see Carolina Blue in the bar décor to recognize his birthplace. Sammy loved to travel with me by plane and truck to hunt saltwater game fish up and down the east coast. We made casts together in Florida for Snook, New Orleans for Redfish, and New Jersey for Striped Bass and Bluefish. After a job relocation we settled in Evergreen in 1995 where Sam fished most of the western states with me in my pickup truck, searching for wild trout waters and all four species of trout found in the West. He loved whitewater and drift boat fishing as well as sleeping on the bank while I cast fly's searching for big trout. Sam was considered by most as the best "fishing dog" they had ever met, as he never jumped into a pool or spoiled another anglers piece of water, but was usually interested in a chunky bar or Slim Jim that other fisherman would offer. Sam is in many photos with me, usually with his nose inches from the fish I was holding. He has fished 10 or more states with me and has been by my side while catching dozens of species of both fresh and saltwater fish, all with a fly rod. Last year Sam's health became an issue and he made his last cast January 21, 2007. I have met many people in my life and traveled a lot, but I've never had a more loyal companion. Since deciding to open this restaurant, I knew for sure the only name that would bring me luck and good fortune would be to honor my buddy and call it Sammy's Last Cast Tavern.
Thanks for coming in and enjoy your time in the tavern,
